Guilty Pleasure for Old School Gamers

Having been a part of the Super Mario Brothers generation, I could not help but be awed at the vast difference between the video games of that time and the highly graphic video games nowadays.

I thought I might as well write a short review of something sweet just to get into the habit of being critical about things. For my first review, I have decided to discuss in writing the video game Galaga.

New and yet Old

I used to play the old version. Back then everything you see on the screen is so simple so I was quite surprised with what I found out after downloading today’s version of Galaga from Xbox Live Arcade. I was really very excited with my purchase since I used to play the older version in the 80s. Back then this game is accessible almost anywhere you go. It is found in party stores, arcades, Laundromats among others. If I were to count all the quarters I dropped into the slot machines during those days, it will surely amount to a big wad of cash enough to buy an Xbox.

When I started playing the new version, I could not help but smile in my little guilty pleasure. For the old school gamers, you will definitely understand how I feel. The mechanics of the game is pretty easy. All you have to do is move to the left and to the right while shooting at the ships that are trying to kill you with their swooping motion and shooting at you all the same.

The new version bears resemblance and would seem like the exact clone of the old version being played in arcades. All the components of the arcade version are present and if there are additions or innovations they are too minimal and almost imperceptible. The graphics are still very basic and the sounds are all so classical making the game a pretty good shot and absolute clean fun.

All I can say is that whether you are the old school sort or the new age kind, this game is definitely worth a try.
